  • Exploring Ancient World Cultures: Course supplement for students and teachers of ancient and medieval worlds, covering Near East, India, Egypt, China, Greece, Rome, Islam and Europe. Chapters include introductory essay, links to major literary and religious works, chronology, and may include quizzes.
  • Eternal Egypt: Exploring “over five thousand years of Egyptian civilization,” this multimedia presentation offers cultural highlights, maps, timelines, and libraries and museums of information.

  • Early Modern Women Database: Provides links to Web resources useful for study of women in early modern Europe and the Americas. Focus is on the period from ca. 1500 to ca. 1800 but includes links to sites about the Medieval period and 19th Century as well.
  • Encyclopedia of British History: 1500-1980: This modern history encyclopedia covers a wide range of topics in detail - from 1500 to 1980 - from poverty to the Trade Unions.
  • Liberty, Equality, Fraternity: Exploring the French Revolution: Archive of some of the most important documentary evidence from the French Revolution, including 338 texts, 245 images, and a number of maps and songs.
  • The Jewish History Resource Center: Project of the Dinur Center for Research in Jewish History. Over 6000 links to websites in more than 30 categories dealing with Jewish History.

  • Archives.gov: National Archives & Records Administration website includes hundreds of thousands of images of historical documents, figures, and events.
  • E Pluribus Unum Project: Site focuses on the question of nation building and how Americans have sought to create "one out of many."
  • Early Americas Digital Archive: The Early Americas Digital Archive (EADA) is a collection of electronic texts and links to texts originally written in or about the Americas from 1492 to approximately 1820. Open to the public for research and teaching purposes, EADA is published and supported by the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities (MITH).
  • France in America: Bilingual digital library explores history of the French presence in North America from the early 16th century to the end of the 19th century.
  • Harvard Open Collections Program: Digitized collections of primary sources from Harvard University Library include Women Working, 1800-1930 and Emigration and Immigration to the United States, 1789-1930.
  • Jews in America: Devoted to the experience of American Jews from 1654 to the present day, site offers video minidocumentaries, short historical essays, and more.

  • Literature and Culture of the American 1950's: From the University of Pennsylvania, this site provides links to texts and other information on the literature and culture of the 1950's.
  • Making of America: Digital library of primary sources in American social history from antebellum period through reconstruction.
  • New Deal Network: Site from Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute (FERI) is devoted to the public works and arts projects of the New Deal.
  • The Historic New York Times: Digitized newspapers from 1860-1866.
  • Women Working, 1800-1930: Digitized historical, manuscript, and image resources from Harvard's collections. Explores women's roles in US economy between the Civil War and Great Depression.

  African American

  • African-American Migration Experience: Site from New York Public Library Schomburg Center offers over 16,500 pages of essays, books, articles, and manuscripts, 8,300 illustrations, 100 lesson plans, and 60 maps to aid in understanding peoples, places, and events that shaped African America's migration over the past four hundred years.
  • American Slave Narratives: Narratives in this online anthology from the University of Virginia are transcribed verbatim from interviews collected by writers of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the late 1930s.
  • The African-American Mosaic Exhibition (Library of Congress): "A Library of Congress resource guide for the study of Black History and Culture."
  • Voices of Civil Rights: Searchable online archive of selected stories submitted by people from every corner of the country. Includes essays, interviews, and special reports.

  Cold War & Vietnam

  • Cold War Hot Links: Web sources relating to the Cold War.
  • Cold War International History Project: Offers new information and perspectives on Cold War history, in particular findings from previously inaccessible sources on "the other side" - the former Communist world.
  • The Wars for Viet Nam (Vassar College): Extensive information, including photographs and documents, on the Wars in Viet Nam. Includes translations of some documents's from Vietnamese archives on the war in Hanoi.
